Overgrow 2006
The
8th of june, Norwegian Cannabisforum wrote about activists that
spread thousands of seeds in community flower beds in downtown
Oslo. When this story went public, we recieved confirmation from
people around the country who had done the same thing - on their
own initiative. This grassroot campaign were to be called "Overgrow
2006". All together, we're estimating the sowing of approximately
2 million seeds nationwide.
Our
stated goals
Our intentions for the Overgrow operation, is to spark
a debate on a failed drug policy, where we recommend our elected
officials and the people of Norway at large, to get more involved
in this aspect of drug policy, which has been the foundation for
a much heated debate ever since the drug were prohibited 45 years
ago.
The
prohibition of cannabis works today as a recruitment basis for
harder drugs, and at the same time - clearly shows - the hypocrisy
of it all, when drugs like heroin, LSD and amphetamine are not
differentiated at all from cannabis, which 'The New Scientists'
called 'relatively harmless' in 2002.
Under
prohibition today, the availability, the quality of the drug,
and the percentage of users is still getting higher, which has
been the story ever since the prohibition were initiated. It's
obviously naive to think the situation today will get better with
the help of any law enforcement.
The only thing we can do - which we know would be effective -
is to reduce the harmful effects afflicted on our citizens by
the black marked and the closed enviroment young kids gets sucked
into. We must work to take control over the situation by regulating
it, and treating the whole aspect of it for what it is; a health
issue.
Laws
should be implemented to protect us from each other. Not from
ourself.
The
Seeds
Most
of the seeds that's been planted, is normally being used in bread
and as bird food. The seeds can for example be bought in health
stores and animals shops. These seeds have been used to thousands
of years under the name 'hemp', and the different uses of it range
from ropes, paper, clothes and other textiles.
After
the operation started, we recieved alot of feedback from people
who has planted seeds from self-produced plants, which all have
intoxicating effects. Ordinarily, these plants need 12 hour with
light and 12 hours night for them to flower, which gives the plant
the well known marihuana. Still, some of the seeds planted have
auto-flowering, which is rather self-explanatory.
Making of hash
To
make hash out of these plants, it's important to remove all male
plants, which will pollinate the females and produce seeds in
the marihuana. If you experience this in your cannabis, you know
the producer hasn't done his job. Marihuana that contains seeds
have a lower intoxicating effect than the unpollinated females,
which goes by the name of sinsemilla. When the plants are ready
for harvest, you remove everything on the plant except the "bud"
(flower) itself, and hang it to dry. When it's done you can put
it in a joint, bong or any other smoking paraphernalia. From the
males, it's is possible to make butter, which also gives you an
intoxicating effect.
The
plants we have sown will probably not flower in time, because
of the early cold and rainy climate in Norway. This is the reason
why most people grow their plants in basements, lofts etc. Some
people grow because they don't want to support organised crime
by paying one hundred kroners per gram, for something they can
produce for a maximum of five kroners themself. More information
on hash, cannabis og home growing is displayed on the menu to
the right..
